VeVe (2023-2024)

Contract Snr. Frontend Developer & Product Designer

VeVe Comics - in partnership with Marvel

I was brought on to help VeVe, partnering with Marvel, to design & build a new comics offering that would appeal to both comic fans and digital collectors. Through research and collaboration with key stakeholders at VeVe & Marvel, I designed a comics web store & reader app (iOS, iPadOS, Android) that balanced desirability, feasibility & viability. I was then part of the frontend development (web) team that built a fully responsive, accessible, SEO-enabled comics web store that, within 2 weeks of launch, earned over half million dollars in revenue & racked up 5,000 app installs. Read more

The product, called Online Store, allows users to essentially sign up for an account with Yellow, fill out a short form, and within moments get a beautiful, performant, and SEO-optimized website to showcase their products and services. I was the sole front-end developer and product designer for this product. This full-stack app conducts a smartphone camera blind test where users pick photos they like without knowing which camera took the photos. The users then find out which camera they ended up liking the most. The app also shows a global tally for most liked camera. The backend was a Spring Boot (Java) Rest API hosted on AWS EC2 with a SQL datastore. The frontend was made with Angular v6. Version 1 is currently retired while I move the backend to a serverless architecture using AWS Lambda and DynamoDB.

04/Recommendations

"Sumedh was instrumental in the front end development of PwC Treasury Intelligence. He was relentlessly focused on the user experience, gaining meaningful and comprehensive feedback throughout the design process and aligning our approach with best-practice principles and high-quality names/examples. He was able to quickly understand the 'why', so he could better think about the 'how' for the UI and worked well with the back end / wider team to bring features and outputs to life. It was a pleasure to have him on the team - all the best going forward Sumedh!"

Prototyping, user testing coordination, making life easier for Marketing / Operations teams, working with teams all over the world, detailed FE building, last minute tweaks or incident response FE changes - Sumedh has done it all with us at VeVe to a very high level."

"Sumedh was hired to help build the next generation of our customer portal and Yellow's new website product, and was able to quickly adopt and implement the latest front end technologies to deliver a great fully responsive user experience and blazing fast performance. Sumedh brought a new focus on user interface design to our front end team, and quickly became a wizard in Figma, React, Gatsby and Tailwind CSS. Most importantly, Sumedh was never afraid to challenge conventional thinking and was always willing to discuss, learn and contribute no matter the topic or task, and I'm sure that we will work together again at some point in the future."

Able to take a project from conception to completion with minimal supervision and consistently delivers high-quality work. Sumedh is a strong problem-solver, able to troubleshoot and debug code effectively. I have no doubt that Sumedh would be a valuable asset to any project."

"Sumedh is a positive force for good. His passion and commitment to deliver whilst adhering to best practice and the end user in mind. As a non technical marketer demanding the best and Rolls Royce of functionality to promote the very best to our customers, Sumedh always remained pragmatic and easy going and open to feedback and requests whilst remaining focussed on delivery. Enjoyed working with Sumedh and hope I get to work with him again in the future!"

"I had the pleasure of working with Sumedh during the development of our Treasury Intelligence reporting tool. Sumedh was brought in as the frontend lead and was very quickly able to understand the requirements despite not having a background in Treasury. Sumedh provided invaluable experience to the team from previous projects he's been involved with. He provided valuable input into the design of the frontend to ensure the user experience was enhanced. He has a fantastic work ethic, he took constructive criticism well and implemented changes in a timely manner...Sumedh was great to work with and was a well liked member of the team. A real asset to the team."

"Sumedh joined our team initially as a contract front end developer, but very quickly stepped up his responsibilities when the ever evolving environment meant we were short on technical leadership amongst both a global pandemic, and a directive to work remotely on his first day with us. Coordinating across both front, back and infrastructure work he quickly became someone who could be thrown a problem with myself comfortable knowing that it would be sorted. His sense of humour, and love for pizza or broccoli (depending on the day), reminded everyone that we could laugh, and still achieve things. Definitely something we will miss. I wouldn't hesitate to bring Sumedh in again if the opportunities arose."

Stuff News (2020-2020)

"I worked closely with Sumedh on a new product's inception at Stuff, and it was such an inspiring and humbling experience. Amidst the coronavirus lockdown, a tech lead leaving, and the sudden transition to remote working, Sumedh was one of the big support pillars in our team. He proactively took on responsibilities to relieve pressure and inspired us all on how to sail through this difficult period with ease. He has a knack for creative problem-solving and innovates where it makes sense. I've seen Sumedh diving at the deeper end of details while being cognizant of high-level design and architecture. He is fluent in both design and development in such depth that not only was he our bridge between the two in the team, but he also provided valuable technical guidance on those topics. It has been such a delight working with him. I hope we find each other at another opportunity soon."

Stuff News (2020-2020)

"I've had the pleasure of working closely with Sumedh at Healthlink; His efforts were instrumental in delivering an important healthcare project for the Australian sector. Sumedh's discipline and focus is second to none. He takes the quality of his code quality seriously, and is constantly researching new techniques and innovations. His rare combination of medical expertise and software engineering makes him a versatile and competent asset. At a crucial stage in the project Sumedh used his medical expertise to produce an 'impossible' solution for diagnosis search and attribution. Sumedh brings an infectious energy to the team, he thinks two steps ahead about the long term consequences of our design decisions - invaluable given the frenetic pace of our project. I feel that I am a better developer for having worked with him."
